BASE PAIRS
What is it?
Base pairs consist of two nucleotides that couple together (like the train above) to form the rungs of the twisted-ladder-shaped DNA molecule. Base pairs are made up of a pair of nucleotides that can chemically bond to each other.
However, not all nucleotides can bond with each other -- A (Adenine) will only bond with T (Thymine), and C (Cytosine) will only bond with G (Guanine). That means you can only have four possible base pairs:
AT TA CG or GC.
Give me an example!
Think of base pairs as best friends. You can only really have one best friend, right? A and T are "best friends," and will only bond with each other. Same goes for C and G.
