THE BISHOP

What is it?

Each side of the chessboard has two bishops. The bishop is a long-range chessman that moves diagonally (or at an angle) across the chessboard. Bishops can move any number of spaces to capture opposing pieces. Bishops start out on either a light or dark square, and their movements are limited to diagonals on light or dark squares, depending on where they start. Bishops may not jump over other pieces.

Give me an example!

In ancient times, the biship represented the power of the great power of the Catholic Church, and therefore was given a long range on the chessboard. You can move your bishop all the way across the chessboard to capture opposing pieces that are far away. Remember -- your opponent's bishops have the same long-range capability, so watch out!
