DNA
What is it?
DNA is the abbreviation for deoxyribonucleic acid. After seeing the full name, you'll no doubt agree that it's a real mouthful and that DNA is a lot easier to say and remember!
DNA is found in the chromosomes inside every cell in your body. The messages chemically coded in the ladder-shaped strands of DNA pass on characteristics which are inherited from one generation to the next.
Give me an example!
Do you have the same color of hair as your Mom or Dad? How about eyes? Are yours the same color as Mom's or Dad's? Chances are the answer to one or both of these questions is "Yes." That's because the blueprint for all of your physical characteristics was passed from your parents to you in the code of the nucleotides inside the DNA molecules in your cells.
