GEAR TRAIN

What is it?

A gear train is basically two or more gears that work together by meshing their teeth and turning each other in a system to generate power and/or speed.

Give me an example!

The sprockets and chain of your bicycle are an example of a simple chain-driven gear train. When you push down on the pedal, you turn the front sprocket (or gear). Teeth in the front sprocket mesh with links in the chain and move the chain. Links in the chain then mesh with teeth in the rear sprocket, which is attached to your rear wheel. This turns your rear wheel, and away you go!
