HYDRONIUM ION

What is it?

Hydronium ions (H3O+) are formed when water molecules (H2O) bond with hydrogen ions (H+). Hydronium ions are positively charged because of their extra hydrogen ion.

When water becomes ionized (or breaks down into its chemical components), two kinds of ions are produced: hydronium ions (H3O+) and hydroxide ions (OH-).

Give me an example!

Solutions with a high concentration of hydroxide ions are classified as bases. How would solutions be classified that contain large amounts of hydronium ions?
