INPUT

What is it?

The input of a mechanical system is the place where the power is entered into the system. It is the very beginning of a process or chain of events that perfoms work.

Give me an example!

A great everyday example of input involves steering a car. In this system, the driver inputs the power by simply turning the steering wheel. Turning the steering wheel sets into motion a chain of events known as a transfer of power which conveys power through a series of mechanical devices inside the car's steering system. The result is a change in the angle of the car's front wheels (combined with the forward rotary motion of the wheels), which makes the car turn a corner.
